rocket fire directed at israel from hamas-controlled gaza, as well as militants and their supplies. israeli officials say three people are dead, 68 people have been wounded. officials put the gaza death toll at 104 with 860 people wounded. all the while world diplomats constantly are looking for some way to broker a cease-fire. in a little bit, you're going to hear my conversation with one of top negotiators attempting to achieve a cease-fire, the former british prime minister, tony blair. he's here in jerusalem. i spoke with him today. you're going to hear the interview. that's coming up later. we'll also hear from our cnn correspondents across israel as well as in gaza right now. earlier in the day, i went to orbkalon where i saw what was going on firsthand on the israeli side of the border. as soon as we got there, the sirens actually started going on. you could see people running towards shelters. i started running after israeli soldiers demanded that all of us -- our cnn crew, myself, we get to a shelter. usually they have about 30 seconds once the sirens go off before there a

increasingly remote. let's see what happens behind the scenes there. >> i have heard, wolf, israel says if there's not some sort of cease-fire agreed to on behalf of gaza that a ground war will begin soon. what are you hearing? >> reporter: well, that's what the israelis are saying. the prime minister of israel, benjamin netanyahu in his cabinet meeting yesterday made that point. they're not going to wait forever. we do know that there have been a lot of international efforts to get a cease-fire, including an israeli envoy, a special envoy who went to cairo to meet with egyptian officials. the egyptian government, president mohamed morsi has been very much involved in trying to achieve a cease-fire together with representatives from turkey, from qatar. president and the secretary of state, the u.s. president, they've been talking to all sorts of leaders. let's see what happens. i'm only a few miles north of the gaza border right now. it's eerie here. the cafes are pretty much deserted. i was walking along the mediterranean beach. normally there would be a lot of people, it's a beautiful

. for the past five days israel and hamas have fired rockets and bombed one another, israeli air strikes have taken a heavy toll on gaza and hamas. right now israel is keeping open the possibility of a ground offensive. they've got 30,000 troopons the border with another 75,000 reservists being called up. now, i want to show you something that played out live on israeli television just a short time ago. watch this. what you're called is called an iron dome. this is egypt's defensive zone system. they're tracking down two rockets. at the end, the small puffs there, that's the signals of success that those intercepters headed off those rockets. so far israel says a thousand rockets have been fired. hamas puts it at about 900. the constant threat has those in israel in fear. >> reporter: there's another attack, another rocket alert going on. we've got to get out of here. >> go, fred. there you see it. a strike in ash colon. we've got the pictures up as fred and our camera crew get out of the way. it's a sign that another strike is coming. can we listen here? >> reporter: and we have the impacts.

being fired from gaza city toward israel and we saw israel's iron dome air defense system actually take out some of those rockets in midair. so it doesn't seem like they actually reached across the border into israel and actually land in israel. we've seen explosions really over the last several hours, though not as active as we saw last night, but it was a very busy day here in gaza, a day -- deadly day as well. take a look. wednesday. meanwhile militants on the other side have fired more than 200 rockets into israel. israel is massing troops near the border with gaza. they have got 30,000 troops there now and have 75,000 reservists getting ready. at least 42 people have died since the operation began. meanwhile, world leaders including representatives from the united states and the u.n. are calling on both sides to show restraint, but restraint seems to be in short order right now. ourarah sidner is live in gaza with a bird's eye view of the conflict. are you seeing more air strikes right now? >> reporter: absolutely, and in just the past few minutes we could hear the loud blasts of air strikes all night long into morning, 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning, blast after blast after blast and could look into the sky and see rockets coming from here in gaza city into israel. i want to show you a picture that our photographer dan morgan was able to take last night around 3:30 in the morning. he's pointing his camera towards what was the police headquarters. hamas police headquarters when he saw this picture. it wa

and counterstrikes are growing deadlier by the day as israel and militants in gaza turn their region into a raging battlefield. the strike you saw on this building in gaza city happened just hours ago. we were told a senior official from islamicee huhhed was killed in that strike. civilians are paying a price as well. officials in gaza say more than 100 people, many of them women and children, have been killed there so far. three israelis have also been killed. our christian amanpour is joining us from jerusalem. first of all, israel is insisting these are surgical strikes intended to hit militant targets and avoiding civilian casualties. we now have reports that 100 people have been killed in gaza, 800 wounded in the past six days. there's a lot of concern about where the civilians lie in all of this. >> well, suzanne, i think any military expert will tell you that it's not possible in a place that is so densely populated, as is gaza. however, israeli officials do tell us they do have a new set of weaponry, more precision weapons than they did this time -- this time last time around when they wen

to tell you about this morning, and israel promising to ramp up attacks on gaza after militants continued their assault on the country. hamas firing at least one missile at tel aviv overnight, but israeli officials say that it was intercepted by their iron dome. the israeli military responded with air strikes hitting two media centers in the gaza strip area at least five palestinians were killed. israel says they'll launch more targeted and deadly attacks at rocket launching sites and hamas commanders if it continues. a deadly attack in thailand hours before president obama's visit. he's there kicking off the first leg of his visit in asia, two were killed after detonating a bomb at a train. the second attack, one person died when a motorcycle bomb exploded. a such continues for the remaining crew member missing from the oil rig explosion in the gulf of mexico. the body of the other missing crew member was found by the drivers after the coast garden terd the search. and the coast guard says no oil leaked from the platform, concerns that this would be another disaster just like the explosi
